Romance + Genre

I created the genre imprint Bryant Street Shorts for Scribd (now Everand) as a fast-fiction publisher aimed at developing new talent to meet the demands of our users. Guided by broad sets of user consumption data (from both internal and external sources) I positioned BSS as a destination for Scribd’s most voracious readers.

The imprint was built to run multiple production points in tandem, which allowed us to move from pitch to publish in roughly eight weeks.

I managed writers, narrators, editors, and cover designers. My goal was to create a collaborative environment and, in doing so, I was able to build a machine that reliably produced 15 original e-books and audiobooks (30 content pieces total) month-over-month. In this role, I wore many hats, but mainly I was the producer, managing editor, and publisher.

Notable Titles

The Quickies Series

As the imprint matured, so did our reader’s tastes. I began to notice an uptick in tropes associated with high-heat erotica and I wanted to explore that with a few writers who showed advanced aptitude in the genre.

We decided to create a series of shorts collected by a theme that each focused primarily on the high-heat scenes that our internal data had shown to be the most popular in other titles.

The result was a series called Quickies, the covers of which remain a personal favorite of mine.

A rare BSS entry in the body-horror genre, this novel follows a group of women in a trial for a transformative new meal replacement who get more transformation than they bargained for.

Lydia is one of my all-time favorite writers, and watching her career grow has been one of the true joys in my life.

Matt has changed drastically from the hyper-masculine man he was fifteen years ago, embracing fatherhood, divorce, and a quieter life selling pies in his hometown. Though his neighbor Heath is initially wary, their shared love of baking turns into a deep friendship that leaves Matt questioning feelings he’s never had before.

Another of my favorite authors, a pleasure to work with and a master in her craft.

When Hannah Howarth takes on a coveted staff writing internship at renowned Visage Magazine, she knows to expect a challenge. What she doesn’t expect is a living nightmare.

Wendy is always a pleasure to work with and given the chance I’d hire her again without question.

And, finally, one of my favorite things about running Bryant Street Shorts was that it gave me the excuse to flex my scrappy side. Here’s a trailer I made to capitalize on BookTok using only free stock footage and editing tools.
